“Don’t cry!”  “Don’t talk back!”  “Failure is not an option!” 🤐

All of this is said to children without a second thought — but should it?

In this deeply moving picture book and parenting guide, award-winning journalist-turned-parent educator Kelly Tay challenges some of society’s most entrenched ideas about childhood — giving parents and children a new way to connect on a deeper level.

This translated version — 别人可能会这样说,但我认为……! — gives parents the vocabulary to discuss Respectful Parenting concepts in Chinese – marking a truly groundbreaking literary work (with Hanyu Pinyin for extra support) 😉

It aligns with the officially-approved rules of Pinyin orthography, where:

✅ Words are presented as complete words, not as bro ken sy la bles 😉
✅ Each sentence starts with a capital letter
✅ Proper nouns are capitalised

Hanyu Pinyin ensures that your child (and you!) grasp the correct pronunciation of every word — eliminating guesswork and preventing pronunciation mistakes down the road.

The book that’s a hit with ALL ages,
young and old!

  • About the author

Kelly Tay is a certified parent educator, the founder of Juicy Parenting, a bestselling author, and a mother of two.

Through her courses and online membership, she teaches Asian parents how to lead with calm and confidence, not fear and force — so that grown children stay connected with family because they want to, not because they feel obligated.

With the vast majority of Respectful Parenting resources coming from the US/UK, Kelly’s distinctly Asian point-of-view makes her a unique and crucial voice in the space.

Prior to her career pivot into parent coaching, she was an award-winning journalist who spent a decade in financial writing. She is a Fulbright Scholar (Columbia University), and continues to provide parenting commentaries in the media.

  • About the illustrator

Chloe Chang is an acclaimed freelance illustrator who won Illustrator of the Year in 2024, at the inaugural Singapore Children’s Book Festival.

She received her first art commission at the age of nine (she was paid in country erasers), and a decade later she graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a degree in Digital Animation.

Chloe has since worked in both television and print media as an illustrator and character designer. Prior to her move into freelancing full-time, she was a storyboard artist at a creative agency and a lead character designer at an animation facility.
